FISHING REPORT --- October 21, 2011

Sat --- 5am-5pm
Sun -- 5am-4pm
Mon-Fri -- 6am - 6pm
STRIPED BASS --- Things picked up a bit this week but not the Fall run you might have expected. Water temps are still in the 60's with mostly wind off the water. The bunker both large and small that usually is migrating are pretty sparse. Locally there's medium to large bass on Long Sand Shoal and Southwest Reef. Earlier in the week the Race had medium sized bass. There were some bunker and bass near the mouth of the Thames. Harkness had some schoolies chasing bait near the beach.
Montauk still has some bass for casting but more from the boats than the beach mostly on the north side.
BLUEFISH --- Some big blues are hanging around Southwest Reef and Long Sand Shoal as well as the mouth of the Connecticut River. For the most part they're not showing on the surface and have a preference for bait.
From shore there's been some teen sized blues at Watch Hill.
PORGIES --- There is some excellent porgy fishing at Southwest, Hatchetts and Bartletts Reefs. Sizes and numbers are good. There's probably just as good action at the smaller reefs but we haven't had any reports.
BLACKFISH --- Reports have been pretty consistent this week when boats can dodge the wind. Good reports have come in from Southwest, Black Point and some of the deeper reefs of fair to good action. The shallower breakwaters are slowing but still producing.

FALSE ALBACORE --- Only report the last few days was good numbers on the north side of Montauk feeding on sand eels.
BONEFISH --- No they're not running in Long Island Sound, but we're putting together a trip to Acklins
