(September 8, 2009- Riverhead, NY)- Moose Fluke Tournament Check To Be Presented
On Saturday, July 25, 2009, the Riverhead Moose Lodge hosted it's 13th Annual Riverhead Moose Fluke Tournament at the Riverhead Moose Lodge Marina on the beautiful Peconic River in Riverhead, NY. There were 130 anglers on 38 boats with 20 children in the Jr. Division. The tournament raises money for The Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center which assists abused children.
This year's event raised $3000.00 for the center. According to Tournament Chairman, Capt. Ray Kelly, "The tournament was a total success. Everyone had a great time and we raised alot of money for abused children. Thank you to all the anglers that participated, the businesses that donated raffle prizes and those individuals that made monetary donations." The top three raffle prizes were a FREE Captain's Course (value $900.00) donated by The Captain's School of Long Island of Calverton, NY,Two Round Trip Travel Vouchers (value $700.00) donated by Spirit Airlines of Miramar, FL and a Custom Rod and Reel (Value $501.00) donated by East End Bait & Tackle in Hampton Bays. The check will be presented to The Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center on Wednesday, September 9, 2010 at 2 PM.
The tournament promotes Catch and Release but this year most of the fish were released anyway as now fluke have to be 21" to keep in New York State. James Johnson of Yaphank won the Jr Division with a 4 lb 10 oz fluke. In the Adult Division, Larry Hanlon, Jr. and Jim Kameter tied for 2nd Place with a 4 lb 8 oz fluke and Brendan Dickson of Hampton Bays, NY won the Adult Division with a 4 lb 12 oz fluke.
Nice Job on the tournament....13 yrs and still running a strong tournament! I've never fished it but I would interested in talking with you about HOW you run it
Just curious- did the event raise $3,000. or $30,000 ~ seeing that you had a lot of boats and participants~ I'm trying to compare and learn (for an event we hold in Maine in June each year)
