    RI toggin

    Hi All,
I usually do not ask for this type of advice..but I am making an exception. I am heading out toward the bottom of the bay on Thursday to try some togging...I usually do ok as some basic spots where 4000 other boats are and often try to find my own. But this Thurs I am taking out a friend who for whatever reason I have not been able to put on tog for the past couple years even though he has come out 5 times before...I prefer to not feel like an idiot again. if there is any place that someone is willing to give me that has been hitting recently I would appreciate it...if not I totally understand as well as I know I am asking alot.

    Thanks!

The water may still be a little warm but you could try the reef between the 2A can south of seal rock off of Newport when the tide is coming in to ebb.

That area use to be productive.

And there's the outer wall of Codington cove in Newport on the out going, you just have to get your boat anchored in tight like in 15' of water and chum the hell out of it and get ready for a lot of break offs.

I've nailed them just off that breakwater but the key is to be in tight and to watch your anchor. The current is strong there so be smart.

You can't go on the inside any longer since the monkeys crashed the jets into the twin towers.

But with all of the Tributyltin left over from the Derector assholes, you probably wouldn't want to.

Thanks...too any one out there who chums for tog what do youuse and how do you disperse? I am a bit new to the chumming thing for tog and my off shore system will not work here..was thinking of (for now) closing off the ends of a minnow trap, smashing about 10 crabs and then heavily weighting it to the bottom...

    yay, nay?

    Thanks!

There are plenty of tog's out front last wensday I did 16 fish in 1.5hrs on the ole brenton tower I'd stay away from codington cove the're real prix this year they take your pic first time then 4500 dollar fine next time.
When toggin you need to play w/ your anchor take up some scope let some out if that dont work move 10-15ft can make all the difference.
if chumming in shallow water I just break the claws off and throw them in when your fishing deep water put a clothspin style outrigger clip on a weighted line break crab or sea clam and put in paper bag clip to the outrigger clip an drop bag to the bottom and then give a sharp jerk it will break the bag despursing the chum right under your boat that trick works well w/ stripers and BFT also
IM planning on being out there tomorrow morning somewhere between beavertail and narrow river Wayward Sun on 16/66 gimmie a shout I'll try and put ya on some fish
