keep it simple just do like we have done it for years dacron to mono and learn how to splice it will come to you. the more you go ! the more you know you cant catch them at the dock dac to mono 1200 yd spool greenspot 600 on both reels and top the off with100 to 200 mono good luck

advantage with 900 1000 yds doubles and triples you can pick your poison let the others run or pop a ball on it and let it go over the side (lock it up first) pick up after you kill the first

In theory, sure.I'd have a real hard time throwing a new 130 vsx on a crowder overboard.

Thanks SH,I owe ya a beer or 3.I guess I'll end up going 200 hc to about 150/200 yds 200 Jinkai.(and yes, learning to splice)

Also,I think I'll get it wet packed at a good shop.Rather than buying a spool, and getting too little,or too much.I see it as an investment in(at the very least)my confidence.

I was asking about 50s, but the same basic principles would apply for 130s. Here's the thread and should be a good start for you.

Braid backing on a Tiagra 50w?
Not trying to give you a hard time but there's a difference in how you might spool up a 50 vs a 130 in my opinion.

130: Like the guys have said I go dacron to mono. Why spend the $ on braid. You just don't need 1,000 yds of line. The chances of getting spooled are slim to none with 600yds of line (dacron & mono). Never had an issue with getting spooled on big fish. Maybe some other guys have. Only reason I could see that you would want to use braid is if you wanted to do some wood working and use the braid as a band saw between the reel and the first guide on a fishes initial run.

50: Hollow braid backing is a good option here if you get in to a giant which could potentially spool a 50 loaded with dacron backing. Also, if you use your 50's not only for bluefin but take them to the canyons I would definitley load them with braid backing. You'll need the capacity if you get in to a blue marlin.

no doubt have a shop who is experienced do the job . my reels are set up with dac on them from prior years and I dont want to fill up with hollow so just leave dacron on them . also never been spooled but close on a few occasions. last 10 12 years been fishing by myself so preparing for the worst like having to cut thru dacron going thru the fleet or even an anchor line or two when somebody wont move for you from lack of experience freeeeespoolllll

new one... like it.. ever had a problem with the hollow core cutting into the dacron on the spool?? or is the wet pack with the dacron solid enough to not allow it to happen.. thanks.

The 130's I've set up go with 800 yards 200lb hollow spectra and 200 yards 200lb mono topshot.

Can't argue with that set up.

Why use 200# when you can use 300#braid 800yds of 300 and a coil of 220 flouro. Neither breaks down just keep trimming back the chaff. Snell your hooks and you have the stealthiest rig out there
