Yup I hear ya, its kind of like a new car. You park it way out in left field to keep it "new" but once you get that first scratch its like "oh well, screw it".
I end up cutting bath towels in thirds and wrapping the entire reel on the trip from the house to the boat and then back again. Works well. |

No need for reel covers....
I have removed the need for covers when in transit back and forth from the boat.
I make these for long and short bed trucks. These pics are actually of one of the proto-types. I have made some modifications for improvement since. ![]() ![]()

I use the ones from bass pro, offshore angler I think. They are neoprene and work well on my reels. They come in all sizes and are fairly cheap.

I use the Shimano covers for my Penns too. 10 bucks each NEU sporting goods West Palm Beach. Covered every metal reel I own.
Foolish to pay 500 - 1000 for a reel and not spend 10 to keep it covered |

That's a great set up if you have a truck. However not all of us can have that set up. The charkbait ones seem good. It just seems silly that a huge company like penn who have such a huge impact on fishing dont make a product of their own to match the excellent reels they make. Sorry to be a whiner.
