    Recommended Canyon Charter?

Are there any boats launching from the Cape that you guys would recommend taking out for a canyon day trip that won't break the bank?

I was thinking about doing it in my boat, but I don't feel comfortable going that far offshore in a 26 footer without radar. All of these marlin and tuna pics have made me envious.

    Thanks.

My advice - jump on either one of Damon's open spots or one fo the Canyon Runner open boat trips. Your better off spending a grand with a top boat on a split charter than trying to go cheap on a day trip.

The canyons are not about catching - as much as anything they are about seeing and experiencing another world for a 24 hour period. marlin and tuna do not automatically jump on your line out there - there are hours and hours of boredom more often than not. Day trips are a crap shoot, sometimes you roll snake eyes, sometimes you roll 11....

Castafari. Knows what he's doing. I have fished tournaments he's been in, and seen them out there a bunch of other times. Always on the fish. And, no, we're not friends......

I am going to second larry's advice. The Castifari is one of the best boats in the big blue water. I am also going to recomend Capt Terry Nugent of Riptide Charters if more of a day trip is what you are looking for. In and out quick and slick. Terry is the man to get you out there fast catch a bunch of fish and get you home for supper. That is unless someone needs help. Then you could be out ther for a while.

    Can't go wrong either way.

if you are interested in learning more and one day doing it yourself, i also recommend the canyon runner seminars over the winter.

i grew up fishing, but not canyon fishing. i used their seminar like my textbook and have added to the knowledge i gained from them with my own experiences and forums like this one.

a charter with someone good will teach you a lot, but the seminar actually has it all written down for you to read over and over. instead of just seeing somebody do something, you will understand why they are doing it.

so i suggest both, a charter with someone good. then also the canyon runner seminar this winter.

as for someone good, i would pick an open boat spot on one of the boats already mentioned, castafari and canyon runner.

I'll be an invited guest on my 3rd Castafari trip later this month. It's an amazing experience and they certainly know what they're doing. It's not on the cheap though.

If I wanted to do a day trip I would call Terry in a heartbeat. Years ago, long before Terry became internet famous, we used to fish the same water and he certainly knows his stuff and I saw him put his people on fish. Disclaimer-I've never actually met him or spoken with him.

    Day Trip Canyon Charter

I have fished with both Terry and Damon and highly recommend both. We got blown out a couple years back on a charter with Damon to the canyon and went with Terry instead for a day trip to Block. We got 25 yellows, 1 small bigeye (i think) had a blue crash our Super Chugger but never come tight and got a few mahi. Both guys are extremely knowledgeable, work really hard and are great teachers. You can't go wrong with either. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Looking into either Riptide or Diablo charters as both the Canyon Runner and Castafari are just too much.

Both the Riptide and Diablo are good guys and know how to fish.
You can also try Machacca Charters "Willie Hatch", in Fal. Harbor on charter row. He is one of the best fisherman on the Cape.
