Well, yesterday was a challenge to say the least. The fog was pea soup, and I spent the better part of the day just trying to get near the few feeds we could hear in the gloom. Everytime I would find a bit of surface activity it would be either over or just winding down by the time we located it in the heavy fog.
I have to admit I was struggling a bit, and we found ourselves down off Chatham before we knew it. Well, a certain charter outfit on a half day bass trip couldnt stay off the radio bragging, and was very helpful in determining that the fish were in very skinny water, way inside the 120-140 feet I was seeing the small feeds and wasting time trying to get near the brief signs of life.....We went in to 45 feet of water and witnessed a huge feed of stripers that had some pretty good sized tuna in with them. Managed to get bit up and blown up on all afternoon, but couldnt keep the hooks in these fish. However, after getting back up to the bank, we scored a nice 66 inch fish on a Pt. Jude Deep Force 200g jig.
Any of you boys working out east that would like a big tip on where these fish currently are....look inside the gear in shallow water just north of Chatham inlet where one would expect the stripers to be this time of year! No charge for the intel either.
