    Radar Troubleshooting (Furuno)

So i just spent the last hour uncovering the boat and just checking stuff out and my radar is Fu**ed up. over the winter part of the structure that we built to cover the boat fell over and hit the dome, the piece of wood that hit it is small and made no cracks in the dome at all, no physical damage to the naked eye. So when i turned on the radar it went through its countdown and went into standby mode then when i hit the standby key to make the radar work i heard the dome start to spin then it immedietly stopped and the whole unit shut down. Anybody have any ideas what happened? does the dome just have to be adjusted maybe or could a little bump break the whole thing inside? never looked under the dome so i have no idea what i'm dealing with. any insight/exp. would be great

now you need to find out why the fuse short out, i do heating, A/c, auto and marine service, sometimes they pop and never come back sometimes they do and i gota find a short.

take the fuse out, bridge with a multimeter on a amp setting run the electronic and watch for a spike, some meters you can set to only read the highest spike, if it gets near or higher than what the fuse is set for then you have found your problem, what did it do just before the spike? is what you need to find out.

but make sure the multimeter amp setting has a fuse in itself.

if wire insulators were not used you will most likely have corrosion which will cause heat and then the fuse will blow, if there was no fuse the wire would just melt and possibly cause fire or just dry out your battery, all depends on cable thickness, cant really tell without looking. if you have some slack in the wire cut it at the ends and check copper wire for "black death"

thanks for the info clint, thats good stuff to know for the future but this time i think the fuse just didn't have good contact when i was initially looking for what fuses the power cord was connected too on the fuse panel i only found one and it was actually connected to two, one wire went to one fuse the other wire went to another fuse and when i found the second fuse it just needed to be cleaned up and get a better connection but i am gonna stuff that little bit of knowladge you just gave me away for another day when i might need it!! thanks again
