    radar troubleshooting

well just unwrapped the boat and low and behold everything works but the radar! So the next thing to figure out is what is wrong with it......when i turn it on the screen comes on with rings and the range info...when i hit transmit the radome turns like it is suppossed to but the problem is i don't have any return info on the screen???? any thoughts? if the thing is junk then does anyone have a used furuno 15" radome for sale?

Aside from the normal stuff like double checking your gain, rain and every setting then I would suggest that you reach out to the electronics shop at MacDougals. They are top notch and will not try to sell you stuff you don't need. They are priced high by the hour but in no time they will have it figured out!

Best of luck for a great season

Ditto what Vin said. Another thought is to check the manual and see if there's a self test you can run. It may give you a clue as to which component is failing.

the next one is always better...

I had a smiliar problem- simply fix!

I have a furuno system and had a similar problem. HD-SIG-MISS was my error message. Take the radar cover off (should be 4 8mm screws) and chances are that the band that rotates the radar itself has slipped off its track. It's a 5 minute fix! Just put the belt back on track and you should be good to go!

my antenna rotates so i don't think it's a belt issue but it does not seem to be sending returns from the dome to the display

possibly a mic or a magnatron, they wear out over time. depending on the year of the unit you`ll be weighing the cost of repair and parts over a new one..

    Is this a 1623 Furuno

Most common issue on these units its that the belt slips. After that, remove your dome and make sure all connections are secure and free of corrosion. I just worked on a unit last week that had similar issue---once the dome was removed there was a very loose ground inside the dome on the back right hand side---couple of turns with a screw driver and now works great.

    Brah,

thought I had sent a PM. guess not. I have dome from 1721 mark 2 Furuno, used since new without issue, but think it is 18"

just retired it from service this spring.

I can highly recommend Gabe Abade who runs Bay State Marine Electronics. He has been in business about 10yrs, travels and is very reasonable. Does a lot of work for the commercial boys in New Bedford and other ports. He just recently handled a Furuno radar problem for me and got them to pay for the part without shipping the whole dome back saving me a lot of valuable cod fishing time.
    Gabe's cell is 508-985-3403
