Quota was updated today.
YTD 377MT out of total R+R quota of 539 means we are at 70% of the total quota.
For the last five weeks an average of 50MT a week have come in. With 162MT left in the quota it looks like the total quota might get filled for the first time in years.
For R+R fish through the end of September a total of 1,998 fish landed vs. only 671 last year as of September; so triple last years pace. 1,150 fish came in in Sept so about 250 a week, 40 fish a day.
Average weights per month have been rising fast; here are the weights for each month this year:
June 249
July 260
Aug 301
Sept 429
so clearly the fish coming in since Sept 1st are a different class of fish than were here earlier. I'd think the average weight for the fish caught so far in Oct are heavier than in Sept.
The fish taken in Nova Scotia and PEI averaged in the low 700 pound class so if they hit our waters the weights will really increase and the remaning quota could be filled faster with much fewer fish.
