    Big non issue

The interior dimension of my 60" fish boxes is about 54". I have never had a problem getting a headed 69" bluefin into a fish box. You'll be fine with a 55" bag.

In any event I've seen more than one 90"+ fish take a boat ride in an 88" fish bag with the head and body in the bag and the tail hanging outside.

So many ways to solve this without buying more $hit!

Good point, backman. We use a fish hold so I am not sure about the bag dimensions, but when he says his bag is 55 inches, I assume he is talking length, right? Whereas a 55 inch tuna is not actually 55 inches long, but is something shorter than that because that 55 inches is the curve measure, which is not the same as straight length...so he should be ok with fish longer than 55 inches...

Yes, the bag is 55" long but it only zippers across the top so I can't leave the tail hanging out one end. Yes, beating this to death the other thing I just thought of is; once the bag is pulled open and full of fish it won't be 55" long anymore, that's the flat length of the bag. The amount the bag shrinks is probably proportionate to the the straight length vs curved length of the fish so it probably balances out.

The NMFS link posted earlier in this thread says a 59" - 73" fish should have a PFCFL of 44" - 54", it could be a tight fit but I should be able to stuff it in there.

I think you will be OK. Just bring a little extra ice and cover it up good, you will be fine. Buy some burlap (cheap as hell) and carry that on the boat, it will do a good job covering up anything that does not fit in. We use that when we are in the fish and dont have time to dress them or put them in the hold. Just wet it down every half hour or so. But I think you will OK with the bag you have and some ice.

Here's a poor mans tuna bag solution that has worked for me on many occasions. Get yourself a furniture movers blanket, and one small 8'x10' tarp. Lay the fish on the tarp, hold up the sides of the tarp, cover fish with ice, throw the very thick furniture blanket over the ice and continue to cover the rest of the blanketed fish with the tarp and pin the ends of the tarp under the fish as tight as you can. This will keep your fish ice cold all day in the sun and the ice will after a while "pack" down on the fish. Works better that a tuna bag! Oh yeah, and is much cheaper!!

I also just heard about "some guys using actual body bags for their tuna". Only problem with that is you may feel the need to tail"toe" tag it also!

They are DTOA bags, Dead Tuna On Arrival $65 fit a 80" fish and $85 fit a 110 inch fish even come with Toe Tags. I have 5 left if anyone wants one. Leak proof and hold 750 pounds with handles. Got them from the sopranos. They pack up nice and small. PS; they make a nice DDOA bag also, Dead Deer On Arrival. Great for transporting your catch in the SUV no mess and easy to carry. Call me if you want a bag or three 781-545-6516 I am connected I can get more.
