Well the Qualifier did it again. We sacked up and left Green Harbor at 4 am and had lines in by the time the sun came up. Water temp was a cool 52F and it was snowing in Boston. It paid off to wake up early as we hooked up to a nice fish within the first hour. I finally got to break in the new Tiagra 80's and we stuck the fish within 20 min. It taped out at 63" and like most of the fish up there it was a fatty.
The rest of the day was slow with the occasional furry of busting tuna and diving birds but we didn't connect. I think there were only 5 or 6 fish landed yesterday.
The big balls of the day award goes to the lone kayaker who was hooked up later in the afternoon. If he didn't land the fish yet I'm sure he's halfway to Europe by now. Thanks to Captain Greg for the tuna bar. Pics to follow
Was it ever blowing in Marshfield at 4:30 am yesterday, all of 10-15 out of the north northeast when the forecast called for 5-10 out of the north. With the looming north east blow on the horizon, I was seriously questioning the decision to fish, and was fully prepared to pull the plug as soon as we got out of the harbor.
Luckily, it laid down and we were fishing all by our lonesome at 7:00 between PH and the south east corner when it went off. There were small south of block specials mixed in with the mediums, and I'm sure bigger fish were around.
We were fortunate to make the most of that bite as the rest of the day was S-L-O-W. Pulled the plug at 12 and shot in a 25 knots as it was starting to blow on my stern.
