    PV: Mar 7-14 2011

The wife and I just got back from a long overdue vacation. We were N of PV near a town called Bucarias. What a view!
    PV: Mar 7-14 2011-mountains1.jpg

I managed to sneak away and do some panga fishing with Lora Vasques on his 27' twin OB CC out of Punta Mita for a couple days. Unfortunately, "cocoa" water has pushed PVs infamous cow tuna N, near the islands; 60+ mi. And the reports were hit or miss. Not to mention the "adventure" our boys had fishing off the islands just a few weeks before. So, we fished inshore instead.

Fished the AM on day 1. Hit the "rock by 4 Seasons", Alberto tossed some livies and the water immediately started to boil. The sierra macks hit everything. Toothy critters. PVs version of bluefish.

The macks, jacks even a small grouper on light tackle was a blast. Check out this cool little guy.

It didn't take long for the rest of the panga fleet to find us. I guess fishermen are pretty much the same all over

Lines in, we headed N looking for roosters. The coastline is absolutely beautiful.

    Oooops...wrong beach. Both are spectacular

We fished the afternoon bite on Day 2. The "rock at 4 seasons" was dead. Lora pointed the boat for the Maderais Islands and we were off. Just before we got there, he sees some brownish looking water, slowly moves the boat in and says "cast!". Lora hooks up first and hands me the rod. They were pods of these bright orange Pargo. Beautiful!

You wait for them to come up, then cast past the pod (as I quickly learned). These are really fun! After a few hours catching these, I say "I hate to leave fish, but what do you think about roosters?". I have never caught one. So we made a couple more passes headed for the islands. When we arrive, Alberto chums some more livies and instantly, the water starts to boil. First cast and we're in the toothy macks again with jacks mixed in. Even managed one of those needlefish. Crazy little f*ers.

The wife and I had an absolute blast!!!!!!! Now I'm really jonsin' to take the shrink wrap off. Spring starts tomorrow!!

Awww, what the hell...another from our beach

We were fishing with La Bamba down there, Panga's suck in chop! We caught dozens of those psychedelic looking groupers, Pomps, Cero, mullets (they look like a red striped bass) and snappers all on livies.

Have a great trip & hope you get a shot at the PV cows! The water's looking a better. At least it's warming up.

Here's a website with free SSTs. Drove myself nuts watching it before I left.

Live well was already loaded on the first (AM) trip. We hit a bait pen for the afternoon trip. Loaded up the live well and we were gone. Quick & slick.
