Proposal to put a wind farm on an important fishing area off Maine...

Just recently, Statoil, an enormous energy corporation from Norway, applied for a lease to put a wind farm test site on a very important fishing area known as the Kettle off Midcoast Maine. The area is roughly south of Boothbay Harbor and SW of Monhegan Island. Easily one of the more important fishing areas off the Maine coast and so it is amazing that this is the spot they chose. Obviously this is concerning, especially since you can bet that they are hoping to make this site A LOT bigger down the road. Cannot imagine if that area was closed to fishing.

The first step in the process is a meeting of the Task Force this Thursday (the 8th) in South Portland, ME. Meeting info, agenda, etc, can be found at the following link. I would urge anyone from Maine, or anyone who fishes off Maine, to follow this process closely and be ready to speak up! ABTA will be following this process very closely but it is best if people follow this on their own, as well.

WOW, that is news to me. What will that mean to fishing access????? Will it be a closed area?
