Dan - nice tip with the strobe.

I've used the "stinky mix" trick as well -- bunker oil or high seas Tuna X. Watch the Tuna X -- it smells like a used "Mighty Whitey". Don't get it on your hands or you'll have to convince the wife you really weren't at Zacharey's.

    Chafe gear?

Is that doubled looped line or a clear piece of chafe gear in the hook eye?

If chafe gear great - if not you should consider using it instead of the doubled loop. I've seen even 400# leader "wear" after a couple fish day

I can't show you guys all my secrets in one day. I'll be looking for a new boat to fish the Monster Shark tournament in.

I do use chafe tube aswell. This was a stinger that I bought at Fishermans outfitter. Joe up there has all the ingridients to make your squid glow red, green, blue, or white. It is just doubled up 300 pound test. I have not had this method fail me yet. I have been on boats that have caught multiple school fish and a giant on the doubled up line in the photos. I do agree that adding Chafe tubing will better guard against Chafe and Bluefish. I did see a new and very interesting way of using the shrink tubing but like I said you will have to wait until after the shark tournament.

Very cool thread Danny, and cool idea with the sword light. To answer your original question, our best results have come on a splash bar with black hard head squids and a green stinger.

I'm curious to find out what people think about running different sized shell squids- if you have 18s, 13s, 9s, and 6s, do you run them all together or do you try to keep one size only in the spread?

Does the wood produce on Stellwagon? I've outfished bars 4 to 1 on Cedar plugs at the Mud Hole (RI) fished them right in the prop wash.

    Thumbs up Tunameltdown

Thanks for the good tips, I'm definitely gonna try the light stick/strobe trick in my wwb bar. We should hook up and troll the bank together some day, we are real close in Quincy. I think you know some of the same people I fish with. June can't come fast enough in the mean time keep the good info coming. giggy

    Pre-dawn troll

Same rig as Tuna Meltdown, 13" black & purple FO squid bar but use a small light stick instead of the strobe. Joe must tell everyone this secret-ha! Anyways, sometimes change the size of the stinger, not just the color. Have not seen scent, be it bunker oil, Tuna-X or even real squid strips, make a difference +/-. Have had some better success trolling mackeral bars over plastic.

    Stinky Stuff

I use the stinky stuff as well and I feel it does make a difference... especially on new squid bars. After a while the bars get all covered up in blood and other stinky stuff that they develop there own aroma and the bottled stinky stuff isn't as needed.

Of course some real life dead stinky stuff rigged up inside that 13 inch piece of plastic may be even better than bottled stinky stuff... But you didn't hear that from me.

Even better yet, skip the plastic all together and run rigged real dead stuff that stinks as the stinger...
