I'm not sure if it floats or sinks. Most of my stingers have a 2 or three ounce Barrel sinker stuffed inside also. This causes the stinger to ride just below the rest of the squid on the bar and it also dosen't get pushed out of the way by an incoming tuna. They swim so fast to capture their prey that they will push it out and away from their mouth.
ah marc ya changed it... now do you find these tamppooons in new bedford? ive heard wonderous things can be found there at low tide...
TunaMeltdown,
Are all of your stingers the same size as the rest of the shell squid, or do you swap them out to larger like 18"? I made a few with a change out up inside the last squid before the stinger so that I can change size and color.
Marc
I use my glow in the dark "mighty whitey". It's the 12" model and fits perfectly inside a 13" lipstick stinger. Drop in a fresh pair of AA batteries and it vibrates for hours. Drives the fish crazy...and the captain![]()
Yeah Marc, I got the swivel inside the last teaser squid aswell. As far as bars and squid size, I use 13" and smaller squid. I believe that a giant will is not going to stop and measure the size of the squid before he crushes it. I have been on boats trolling 13" squid bars and caught fish from 70 pounds to 700 pounds on the 13" squid. I also use the smaller 11" and 9" squid bars but find that they do not swim as well at the slower 3.5 knot speeds I usually troll for Bluefin.
FishinChick,
Are you for real?
This winter has been way to long I think we are loosing it.
