I was just having some fun with something that some envious souls had posted in the boating forum.
These guys apparently don't have a clue what a good boat is about. One ass actually made a comment about Jap diesels. Jap diesels that he admitted were in his pride and joy, but he "wasn't too happy with them".
My motors are actually Scania motors with Yanmar technology.
I only had one opportunity to stick her nose out of the bay. It had been blowing a steady 25 knts with gusts all day. It was kicking good just outside Newport. I kept her at cruise and my buddy that was with my, whom I've been fishing with for years, just looked over and grinned. I asked him if he wanted to take the helm and he jumped over and just kept smiling. He's a man of few words. We took her out to the 2A can and ran her through the motions, head sea, beam to, following sea. We did not once take her off of 1800 rpms.
I saw your post looking for a new project. Good luck on the quest. That B25 was sweet when it was finished. I'm sure you'll find the right express in need of finishing or refurbishing for a keys boat.
I recall years ago that you weren't a fan of express boats. Something change?
You should be looking for something that can take you to the sword grounds in comfort. I landed 2 in the daytime fishing out of Bud N Marys on an express.
I see why that fishery is something special. I'm hooked and I really want to employ their techniques out off the canyons. The subtle hits on the drift and then cranking your ass off is a rush like no other fishing I've ever experienced.
I had the pleasure of fishing with Vic Gaspeny and Richard Stanczyk THE guys that pioneered the daytime sword fishing fishery. You need to hook up with those gentlemen. Richard gets intense when he's fishing, which is the way it should be.
