Our 1st dirty white boy
Gary and Ernie joined Deb and me on Thunder for a run down to the edge on Friday. We didn’t have high expectations with all the reports coming in of late. But, the weather forecast was perfect and you can only show up for work on regular basis for so long before you just have to get off shore.
We pulled away from the dock and made good time on our way with FAC seas. The plan was to head over to the west and angle over to the 750 line. West of the Horns I spotted a large tree floating along and slowed down. Gary spotted the Mahi and we spent some time picking off 11 for the box. We ran for the Middle Grounds without a lot of company. Put in for the troll when a sub appeared. We gave him a wide berth and made our way across his wake. The sub brought us our second bite of luck as a skipjack whacked a short line and a mystery fish took down the way back. The skippy got lifted onto the deck. The mystery fish dumped a quarter spool off the 70 and unbuttoned. Further down and after turning east, a Black Bart jethead gets hit and line is screaming off the Avet 50 wide. Lines are cleared and a bill slashes a Canyon Runner bar and parts that line. Gary’s on the rod while Ernie and Deb mop up the deck. After a short fight with one jump the dirty white boy is at the leader boat-side. This was a first marlin for the boat and crew. The colors that the marlin showed were brilliant. This guy was lit up. We finished off edge troll ended to the east of Fish Tails. We picked up one longfin in the deep to end the days fishing. The troll up the east side wall, onto the flats and north to around the 425 did not produce for us. The day’s video… http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...64500124597311 The pics were lifted off the video so they're not to clear. We were kind of busy and nobody got to the still camera. |
