So, you know it's your buddy's boat. Do you attempt to jump on board before it rides the jetty, or just let her speed on in?
I'm no hero, but I might have, especially so were that boat headed into a busy marina or swimming area. That'd be a hard thing--for me--to live with if, say, some kid were killed and I'd not tried to stop it. But then, I could have used my roscoe to knock out the engine, too. See, kids? Guns are TOOLS!
I've watched a high speed good guy intercept of bad guys and theres a pretty logical way to do it with minimal danger. What they did was parallell first then come over and make contact. Once touching the good guys just steered harder into them which tighttened the "seal" if you will. At warp speed the officers were able to board and gain control of bad guys and boat very quick.
Would I? Not likely unless like you say, there is iminent danger to innocent passers by... I could do the drive maneuver pretty easily to come along side and push. Don't know who I fish with that has the wherewithall though to jump ship and shut the other down though...
Dude,
I know it was hung on the jetty and all, but NO WAY am I putting my boat and it's occupants in a potential course with that thing. What scared me the most were the two guys that jumped in. If their wake knocked the boat loose, they could have been run over (if there was anything left of the prop).
It's easy to say from here that I think I'd have tried an A-Team type rescue.
