    Thumbs up offshore report 7/19/09

Today we took out the adam Levi charter. We headed to the 30 fathom fingers. we saw plenty of life with birds working bait and dolphins in the area. we had a 68=72 degree temp break so we trolled for a few miles hoping for some Bluefin action. None to be found. so we set up shark slick and as I'm putting out the 2nd middle rod Adam spots a 7' Mako behind my transom. i quickly try to hand feed it a fillet bait on the middle rod i was just setting out. It was just wiindow shopping. It didnt touch any of our baits and disappeared. then 30 mins later the deep bait gets nailed and i let it run a few seconds then lock er up and set the hook then it gone! this happend several times this morning. we checked the baits and they were just eating them and missing the hooks. like they've been through this before and new where to get a free meal! lol. We then had a nice hook up and I give adam the rod and fights a 150 lb. class brown Shark that we tagged and Released. Then 5 mins later after rebaiting the rods the middle rod gets nailed I set the hook and give the rod to eric Seitz and he battles a nice 5'6" Mako to the Boat. They wanted to keep it but i told them theres lots of shark activity here and its early(11am) so lets let this one go and try for a bigger one. We caught 2 more makos but smaller than the first. OH WELL . at least they had action.
P.S. We have 5 openings next weekend if anyone wants to get in on the action.
