    My take on this article.

I disagree with longlineing, purseseining, dragging, and gillnetting strictly due to the bycatch kill. Why not hook and line only. We have a huge unemployment problem. If we were to hire fisherman to go out and catch groundfish hook and line, even if it would mean a higher price paid at market, would that not be a possible solution. I used to sell jig cod and get a premium, not much of a premium but people paid more than if the cod died in a net and stayed there for a day or so. It would create jobs, stop bycatch kill, and keep the comm guys who longline, pursesein, drag and gillnet from loosing their fishing buisiness. It seems to work for BFT. I like the way they catch cod in alaska on the deadly catch where they trap em. They can throw back shorts alive.... I also think we should not commercial fish for baitfish(herring, bunker, macks) Not looking to get bashed here just a suggestion. WHat do you all think? Would this be a compromise with the enviros? Gotta be a middle ground somewhere. Tell ya one thing I ain't gonna stop fishing. Never!!! Even if I have to move out of this country. This family tradition will never die.

Interesting ideas here. Unfortunately I dont think anything will please the enviros except all of us sitting at the dock drinking beer so that no boats are even out on the water. They want to ban everything. I like your style of thinking though, would be interesting to see how this idea would be pan out.

Start banning one method, they go for the next and the next and so on till everyone is off the water.

It did not take long for someone to try and turn this into a rec v. commercial issue, now did it! That is just what the other side is hoping for. It is exactly that kind of attitude that helped ensure that all fishermen -rec and commercial- are getting screwed by the MPAs out in California.

I wonder how much PEW has spent on the Gov's of all the Eurotrash who have caused all this mess? Americans get it shoved down our throughts (and elsewhere) again. If you live in Massachusetts on south shore and do not find a GOOD replacement for Delahunt, there will be no hope. Time to find a fisherman friendly POL now....let me know...we have to get rid of these Dem who suppport Green Natzies...
