Headin' to SWC
We're a crew of 6 heading to SWC tomorrow to start, and then we'll likely work our way back up the bank. Clearing the dock at 04:30, and I'll be standing by on 13, 16, and 68.

NWC or Boone Island Ledge
hi all, new to this forum. glad i was sent here cuz it has been great to read all the reports. hope i can add to the hookups!
heading out tomorrow am, thinking about the NWC but sounds like its slow. Any intel would be appreciated. Another option, a much closer one is boone island ledge. Last saturday got there around 7:00am. at 8:30am saw a number of fish busting by the buoy. Had some 100 pounders airborne off the bow. but then it died off fast. will be on a boat to new to name! 23t contender. why is it so hard to name a boat! for now, going with "kinematic" good luck all! |

SWC was pretty much a nitemare today. So much boat pressure all at the same time. The fish were there, but down deep. Those having success were live-lining pogies. Two guys from Marina Bay had luck doing that.
We moved up the bank but there wasnt much going on there either... Alot of birds sitting in the water around the double L's, but we must have missed whatever was going on. Probably going to make another run next week... |

Tuna Cherry Popped! (sort of)
It finally happened, almost near the end of the long morning we got the hit on my buddy John Walker's boat, the Black Label.
We were out there at 5:35am again and trolling the NWC (with 25+ boats) until 8am. We didn't hear much on the radio, a few swings and misses and surprisingly no reports of blues even. We decided to move south, towards the old BE bouy. We passed the new BE and saw a slew of birds, I'm talking Alfred Hitchock birds, attacking the water. We set up our spread and had our first hook up, a bird. Shook the bird off and looked left and saw a Grady White already hooked up. Sensing a repeat of tuesday when the pump out boat hooked up right next to us, we moved on after a bunch of passes by the birds and whales, jealous yet happy for the lucky guys fighting a tuna... We started our troll away towards the old BE and wham, the outrigger line started getting spooled. John grabbed the reel and harness and set up for the fight. Athought the tuna took about 200 yards of line out, he ended up running toward the boat, so the fight lasted about 30 minutes....John showed his pass experience as he fought the fish perfectly and we hauled it into the boat with a huge thump. It was all worth it, 52" long and 38" girth = about 180lb. The thing was a beast and was the most incredible time of my life on the water. ![]() The coolest part of the trip was that the 10year old was making his maiden trip, so he's hooked for life and to have my buddy John share this experience with his oldest son is a pretty neat thing...Some pics below. |
