    Now which reel?

I am going to build some trolling rods this winter and I was going to buy some Penn reels for them but after the recent thread I have changed my mind I think. I know everyone on here loves the tiagras but I think I might go for Avets instead. The reason I was going to get Penn was because I have a good connection and I can get them cheap.

Has anyone had experience with the Avet pro 50w?

I have used an avet 30wide and 50 narrow, and like them a lot. I know Bob at green harbor bait hasn't seen one come back for repairs.

Haven't used them yet but just got two new Avet 50W. Look very well made and I love the button feature to move past strike (the button is on the lever which pushes in the detent for you...very cool design)....

For the money it seems you cant go wrong with the avets. I love the gearing on them, much better than tiagra or internationals.

Personally I think the tiagra is far surperior to any penn international. The older penns (prior to 2000) are fine but the newer models IMHO are nothing like they used to be, nothing but cheap chinese parts. Never used any avets but I have heard they had alot of binding problems

We used some Avet 30s on our recent trip down South and we loved them. Very smooth drag, and retrieve. Sturdy reels as well. We fish pretty much all Shimano 50ws and 130s on our boats and they blow away the couple of Penns we have on board. We have had nothing but issues with our Penn 50vsw and 70vsw.
