We have been enjoying the 3rd off of Hummarock with friends and family since I can remember; at LEAST 20 years. Definitely my favorite Holiday of the year as well. We have been on the beach and offshore.

For the last 5 or 6 years we have been offshore, and it is one of the best nights. Whenever we bring people who have never seen it, they are always amazed and can't wait to go back.

I don't think they will EVER be able to stop it from happening.

I grew up on the corner of Hatherly Rd/Shoal Water Rd in Scituate, and some of my greatest memories as a kid/teenager were loading up our two rowboats with pallets and junk wood and rowing across Musquashicut Pond multiple times to build (what we thought) were massive bonfires on Mann Hill Beach. We'd then spend the night around the fire shooting off all of our North End-purchased whistlers, skyrockets, sunflowers, jumping jacks, roman candles, etc. while there were bonfires and fireworks on each side of us, up and down the coastline from Minot to Humarock. Of course, the Scituate cops eventually shut that down.

In more recent years, we've taken the kids and other families out to the Spit on the 3rd, light a controlled fire in a Coleman firepit and spend the night shooting off NH-purchased Phantom Fireworks (slightly more sophisticated than the arsenal of my youth listed above) while enjoying the Humarock pyrotechnics in the background.

The past two seasons, we have veered away from doing our own show and have also gone out of the mouth of the river to take in what has to be one of the most impressive private fireworks and bonfires display on the eastern seaboard along the Marshfield coast. This year was particularly impressive, and it's something the kids will always remember.

In my humble opinion there are far more important things for our police force to be concerned about than shutting down something as fun, memorable, and ultimately patriotic for families in our towns. One of the reasons we live here is to avoid the pompous, sanitized and PC bullshit that now runs rampant through other (unnamed) towns here on the South Shore. Let it go, powers that be...
