ASA Tournament
Great start to a cold weekend!
Day One
Ran north to start the day trolling and at the 8th line set the rods lit up starting one of the best tournaments fishing days this fall. There were gannets diving everywhere, plentiful amounts of bait and steady marks. We had steady fish to the boat in to the afternoon ranging from 17 to 27 lbs.
You know your having a good day when you’re arguing who’s taking the next fish, then after that got old when then decided to divide the boat and I took over the strb side.
After the bite slowed to a screeching halt we headed back to get some eeling in and see if we could pick up a larger fish. We got one right at the end but nothing large.
Day Two
It was a good day but frustrating as ever.
Ran north again, the seas were at 3-4 little rougher than expected but it cut the boat traffic down. By the 4th line set the back corner reel started screaming! We had a nice FISH ON!Single fish in 40’ of water. 20 minutes and he was 15- 20’ off the transom with the weight in sight, 10’ of line and leader to go. He surfaced a few times but could get a super good glimpse there was not a doubt in my mind that this was a large 50 plus fish. Keeping steady tension on the line with the swells was a dueling task in its own but all was well until the bass rolled side to in a wave and that was all she wrote. Boy was I pissed!!!
I don’t lose fish but I lost a BIG fish!
After we finished setting the lines I continued to sulk and try to figure out what went wrong and hour went by without a fish. No matter how many times I was told you’re a good angler and you did nothing wrong, my mind was still on that fish. My mind eased slightly with a 17lber but it was not the same. After trolling and chasing gannets for a good while that same lucky # 7 rod lit up like a charm and it was screaming it was game time again. I knew the fish was large but defiantly smaller than the 1st. After regaining control it surfaced with its big mouth wide open and flashed its tail and we knew we had something nice. Boated the NICE 42lber and did the nice fish dance
and not bite after that. Ran south past the eeling grounds to poke around on some leads nothing good in size. Called it quits and headed for the scale.
End results, great weekend of fishing and 2nd place finish by a 1/10 of a pound and missed 1st by a few pounds. Another top female angler plaque for the wall and a great time with great people!
Congratulations to David Nova on the Marlin Manic on his 1st place finish, Anngler and Curtis on their junior awards aboard Rockhound.
Here are some pictures from the weekend.
I think I even managed to probably piss off the boatpix.com guy by taking a picture of him
Till next time...See you in Kitty Hawk!
Happy Holidays!
