any type of fishing practice that kills indiscriminately with tremendous bycatch mortality is not a good thing. Long lining practices are what practically erased broadbill swordfish off the planet...not harpooners...not rod and reel guys...long lining. But you cant blame the longliners. They will take as much as they are ALLOWED.

NFMS is to blame as they have the power to regulate it. There shouldnt be laws that allow for bycatch period. The bycatch fish should be harvested and sold and should count against the fishing quota capacity of each longlining vessel regardless of the species. This is nuts

what i wrote in my post came from a very reliable source and i know it to be true. being such a touchy subject and the fact that i just don't like drama, i deleted it. i have family and friends on both sides of the fence and simply don't feel like getting in an argument with them the next time i need something from the local 7-11. you know, that place where the fishermen get their coffee in the morning.
