I know some guys are getting 3, there was a few days where maybe they could have stacked up a couple more. I don't think anyone. It would make the gig that much more grueling if it went to 5 a day. I guess it would even further separate the men from the boys. In October and November its nice to know that you should go in if you get a fish or two, to be not even halfway to your limit after 2 fish could do some mental damage. Loser's Ledge might have to be re-named if they up the limit to 5...
Remember when it was one a day? If you caught one, not only was that awesome, but you had to go HOME after. I guess thats the part I would miss. I don't know if I (or the way things are now, more than 1 or 2 guys a year) would get to go home because they had their fish. Its like with bass... in theory it would be great to be able to stack 50 up in a day, but being able to be done early with 30... is priceless... enough is enough at some point.
I get what you are saying Junior but dont think that should stop them from raising the limit for general boats. I think you are saying it sort of tongue in cheek, but wanted to be clear on that point anyways. This will be good for boats that get into the fish and can get their 4 or 5 and that goes for both hook boats and harpoon boats. There are also boats that have talked about going way the heck out- Georges- but have a tough time going that far for just 3. They would rather have the daily limit removed completely but 5 should be better than 3.
The only reason the daily limit is in place is to slow down the catch rate but right now that is not needed and so there is no point in a 3 a day limit. These are rules that should have been done away with before now but better late than never. My guess is that you will see this raised limit help people more than you think it will.
One thing that should be noted as that the push to get these rule changes was done last year in the hopes that the rules would be in place by this fishing season. Amazing that here we are with the season pretty much over and the are just putting out the PR. These changes would have been very helpful this season.
Tongue and Cheek is exactly how I am saying it. It is not a big deal to raise it that is what I am saying. It will have a minimal effect on the overall harvest. I just wish they would do a little more to increase the viability of the fishery. Being able to take those 68+ inch fish would have been huge. The only reason I don't like it is now at the meetings where they sit there, listen to us, tell us we have good points and then never change anything; they can now tell us they gave us something. When in actuality they gave us hardly anything at all.
I am definitely not saying that I disagree with the raised limit.
This change has been a long process for the hook guys. We have been looking to get it to be 3 a day per 24hr trip which would have enabled us to fish Georges this summer. But 5 a trip will make that possible for next year. Where we are fishing now it would have been possible a few weeks ago to do 5 in a day several guys had the possibility.
