Had a great trip on the Golden Girl this past Friday morning. Slayed the cod and pollock and made some offshore bait for this year.
This was our annual trip with Ken of Haley Elizabeth Charters. As usual he had us on a pile of fish. Our first came within 5 minutes of dropping in and then it was a frenzy for the next hour.
All the fish came on jigs and teasers with more doubles than singles. Ken had the Daiwa LD 40 2-speeds on board and they made easy work of a double when you kick them into the low gear. I still like my Avet MLX paired with Taz's custom Rouge spiral for this kind of fishing, but I know Ben was sold on the Daiwa 2-speed.
We were a layer short of filling the Bonar at 6:30 and moved to find some haddock on larger cod. Poked around a few other spots with a good tide scoping the drops. Picked up more cod and pollock over next couple of hours.
Finished off the day stopping on the way in to grab some offshore bait for this season. We jigged sabiki rigs for a while to half-fill a tote with mackeral. Had a blast getting six to fill a rig at once.
Great time, weather and fishing yesterday. We ended up filling two 120 coolers full of fillets.
