Newport RI?
Can anyone recomend a transient spot that we might be able to get a slip around the 20-28 of July? Would like to have a pool and within walking distance to some food and drink. Newport Marina seems nice but would like some local input. Thanks |

We have stayed at Newport Marina and found eveerything first class.
Just be certain to make your reservations well in advnace as it sells out constantly. Great place to tie up and everything you need is only a short walk. First class operation and well run |

I'll second Newport Marina....and now is definitely the time to make your reservations ..... it's always busy there regardless of the economy or the price of fuel.....Plus it's basically within walking distance of the happening spots and restaurants...

I spoke with the manager on Sat. Really nice guy.
Thanks for the replies, sounds like a great place.... can't wait to go. As good as you all say it is.... I was informed that they are just finishing up a complete remodel of the marina so I am guessing that it will be better then ever. Thanks again guys. |

I have another question....
Somebody said something about a cannery next to Newport Marina??????? Is that a factor???? I heard it's loud and a bit smelly???? I was told that Goat Island is the place??? Let me add..... this is the wife asking these questions. |

Some Bad info there
![]() Trust me on this a cannery would last about wo seconds in this high rent district. Your wife will love it there, The resturant right beside it as I recall is the hanger and there are so many good resturants, shops, around your head willspin. Goat Island is across and is another major tourist area...no worrys but bring your gold card: ![]() You will simply love the place especially if this involves the Admiral...One weekend here and you get a free fishing pass for the season

GF-
If you really want to impress the admiral, take her to Scales & Shells for dinner. They do not take reservations or credit cards and it's usually an hour wait after 6 PM. IMO, it's some of the best, if not the best, seafood in Newport. It's about a 15 minute walk from Newport Marina. It's a small place and the atmosphere is casual.....but bring your piggy bank,it's not cheap. http://www.scalesandshells.com/ |
