Newbie wants to catch cod in Montauk on Pres Day

Hello all experienced NE fishermen,
I've been given a recommendation from a mate on a NJ boat for the Miss Montauk since I have President's Day off and have never caught a cod. I hope to fix that. Since it will be a 4+ hr drive from PA to Montauk, I'd rather not bring any gear, but are there any hints/tips you guys can give?

Are there any rigs I should bring? Any techniques that you can recommend? Thanks for any help.

The Miss Montauk

The 65’ Miss Montauk is a boat that was designed and built for Montauk Fishing. Capt. Jamie & family are pleased to be bringing the Miss Montauk back to fish the Montauk waters.

She is Coast Guard Licensed for up to 97 passengers. The Miss Montauk is a clean boat with a small galley for snacks and drinks. There are separate Men’s and Women’s bathrooms.
