New York gets rid of saltwater fishing license
    Posted on March 24, 2011

New York's saltwater fishing license is being repealed, according to the Recreational Fishing Alliance.

New York officials have reached an agreement to end the $10 annual license and replace it with a free registry for the state's coastal waters.

Legislators announcing the change said it will cover two years.

"New York's saltwater fishing license was an inferior product from the start, and as consumers, constituents and taxpayers our state's sportfishermen asked that it be replaced," RFA managing director Jim Hutchinson said in a statement. "We're grateful to all those New York legislators who showed what true bipartisan leadership is all about."

    That's great, I think.

Knowing NY they'll replace it with a system that costs twice as much and then hire 100 people with six-figure salaries plus benefits to zealously enforce it at gunpoint if necessary.

BTW, will I get a refund of my lifetime license fee? I'll bet you have to fill out form Alpha-29B-Hercules in triplicate (Black ink only please) in order to claim a pro-rated refund after a 300 day cooling-off period.

Please forgive my cynicism, but I've lived here long enough to be suspicious of how this state works.

I think I rather move to another country and take my chances of getting killed by the rebels than live in the states at times. Its every state and every politician there is a text book that is not public to the citizens of the US that gives a guide to the leaders on how to tax the citizens to pay for their mistakes.

My all time favorite was when NJ put in the EZpass system for our tolls and the original contractor/company screwed the state and there were problems. In order for them to make it right they decided to charge NJ ezpass holders a fee of $1.00 a month just to have a tag regardless of use. I am a proud holder of a DE Expass tag and account

So my grip is say I hire a contractor to work on my house or business can I charge the state for the mess that was left... I think not but hey governments pass their mistakes on to us to pay for yet they get tons of perks and funds to do the things they do yet the regular citizens

Funny you should mention EZ-Pass. I just found out that if your EZ-Pass was issued by a non NY agency our MTA is charging you the cash price for tolls, not the EZ-Pass discount. It wasn't enough for the thieving ba$tards to save the toll collectors salaries, now they have to find new ways to rob the public. Biggest rathole in NY, and nobody will investigate it.

Okay, that's enough. It's too early in the morning for my blood pressure to be this high.

    Salt water license refund

It's a valid question, I have paid for my salt water endorsement to my license with the start of the season in October. It is fair to expect that I will get my ten dollars refunded. Someone who invests in a lifetime license fee should expect every penny refunded.
