New England Role Call
Well this is exciting! We are officially on the radar screen at SFC. Admin has recognized us, and we need to respond.
I want to start a thread here so we can all introduce ourselves. Let's each take a moment to tell a little about where we're from, what we chase when we're on the water. I'll start... Hi, my name is Shoe, and I have a fishing problem . I live in Portsmouth NH, and have the best kind of boat there is- someone else's. I have been lucky enought to meet up with a number of great people who are fortunate enought to have nice boats, and I mate for them as much as I can. I have been fishing in the Gulf of Maine for about 13 years. I started off chasing stripers and blues, moved to sharks, and finally caught tuna fever about 5 years ago. When things get slow I'll also bump bottom for cod, haddoc, and the occational wolffish. I made the mistake of taking my first canyon trips last year- one to Veach, and the other to Hydrographer- I say mistake because when you're used to fishing for cold water fish and you come home with a boat load of yellowfin, mahi, and wahoo, the idea of chasing cod isn't quite as appealing . But look who I'm talking to- you guys know full well what I'm talking about! My new thing this year is going to be trying to adapt some trolling techniques from down south to the bluefin fishery up here. I've been so fed up with the dogs, I'm looking for a new way to roll. For fun I edit some video from time to time, so you may see me put one up every once in a while. I'm looking forward to this forum and hope that we can get some good folks on here to share a little bit about themselves and their experiences. As crusty New Englander's we have the reputation of holding everything close to the vest and not helping each other out- hell I'm guilty of it as much as anyone else- so let's try to open up some conversation here and help each other catch more fish. So post on up, even if you have before, and tell us a little bit about yourself. Shoefish PS- Here's a New England fishing video to get the juices flowing... |

Well I'm glad we have this going now. Not too many guys here from CT, but maybe we will get more now that CTFishermen is going to be a pay service. Been fishing since I could walk (35 now) as I grew up on a lake. Flyfished through my teens and picked up canyon fishing about 12 years ago. It's a been a real sickness ever since I caught my 1st Tuna. Since then...have been all over fishing Hawaii, Panama, Carib., Mexico etc. Been a captain for 5 years, but I don't do paid charters. I have a 36' Yellowfin in Niantic and a 21' Hell's Bay in Westport. Have a 42' YF on order, but who knows when I'll get it. Fishing a few tournaments in Aug. out of Block, Nantucket, and the Vineyard. Make about 20 runs to the egde each season, so I'll have plenty of offshore reports. Always looking for crew. Inshore or offshore. My next step is to teach my 3 kids to fish...but they are a bit young...all under 4(but getting there) Maybe I'll figure out how to video one of our trips and post it here one day.

name is Bigeye - because that is the fish that eludes me like the white whale. Live in boston because of work, but spend every minute I can fishing out of Marthas vineyard, will be fishing inshore in the spring for Blues and stripers while i wait for the water to warm. Then head offshore to canyons or to the east to fish chatham.
I like Shoe, fish on other peoples boats , I love being the PIT BITCH, and always bring the supplies. After along winter I cant wait to get out and fish, just changed jobs so i will have sometime off this month, if anyone is looking for a mate.

Shoe it's Danny Stewart. A little about myself: 24 years old College grad working in Boston as a construction manager. Ever since I can remember I loved fishing. It started in freshwater but soon my obsesion turned to stripers and bluefish. I did not have a boat then and was a pit monkey on my best friends boat. There I was introduced to trolling up monster bass in Cape Cod bay with jigs, Spoons, and tubes. Freshman year in college it happened. My father and I researched for over a year and chose a one year old well priced 20' seacraft with a 135 mercury optimax. It has been all down hill or uphill whichever way you look at it from there. The boat has proven itself time and time again. I run it like a boat twice its size! It has caught Mahi,Skipjack,Bonito, thousands of stripers (dozens over fourty inches), bluefish, toggies, fluke, flounder, seabass, and bluefin tuna up to 110lbs. It has been all over the northeast coast. I run it to the mudhole, vineyard and nantucket, the claw, monomoy, crab ledge, bc bouy, regal sword, stellwagon, cc bay, jeffries, and plattes. I have had my highs and lows with the boat but the highs and the constant sound of a singing drag are well worth the headaches.

Greetings all! Charlie Wade here. I fish for everything from brook trout to bluefin tuna. Conventional, fly, I do it all. I had the good fortune of traveling with my fishing gear instead of golf clubs when I was in corporate America, so I've fished all over the world. Couple of boats, master's ticket, both rec and comm depending on the season and target species. Right now, I'm running a lettering and signage company, Impact Expressions, where I enjoy lettering boats, trucks, buildings, and just about anything else you can imagine.

Cant wait for the reports. I havn't felt as giddy as this since the last 2 hrs of Box's riggin school. (You select few know what I'm talking about).
But Ill start with a little intro for you guys. Im 28 and just moved up to Haverhill Ma last year. Grew up in Wakefield. Starting fishing from as young as I can remember with my Dad, local lakes, up to Maine for trout and salmon etc. Then all went downhill when he bought a little 14ft aluminum that we ended up turning that little boat into a striped bass catching machine. Caught my first striper when I was 12 and still have the pic to prove it. After that first striper we then spend every moment trying to catch more. This lead us going south to woods hole where we praticed and practiced and fished and fished. That boat finally had its last day about 6 years ago now my dad still does the same but with huge 16 footer instead. About 3 years ago, since I was spending less and less time down the cape and needed a ride up where I live so I bought my 22' bluefin. Since i got her (instigator btw) I have been rigging her and upgrading and fixing things just like a boat owner. I loved the striped bass and bluefish game it is fun, exciting and rewarding. But right now I have more fun learning new techniques and although my catch ratio hase gone down, my knowledge has increased. I am now primarily fishing waters (merrimack river and east) that is still new to me so only time will tell what this area brings me. For my day job I am a hvac engineer for a company in Andover I work right next to a window so my lunches are spend looking at blue skies and reading Sportfishermen.com I plan on making this year the year I really get back into my game. I am a willing and able to go with anyone who wants to take me. (hint hint nudge nudge) and am willing to take anyone who wants to go. Heck you tell me when you want to go and Ill go. My goal for this year will be to catch a shark off my boat!! Anyone willing to try?? ![]() |

Grew up fishing the bays of Long Island. Moved to montauk in 1980 and fished out of there until about 5 years ago when I moved to RI. Boat is a 30 foot Blackwatch, the "Makomania." Check out my website for pictures of the boat and fish and some articles that I wrote and were published in various magazines. I'm also the offshore and Rhode Island field editor for the Nor'east Saltwater magazine.
