Hey everyone! Glad to see this section come to reality!!! My name is DJ, live in boston and fish from boston to LI Sound to the Canyons. not a boat owner, but the next best thing...boat rights, so i have access to waters in Boston, The Cape, LI Sound from the CT side (both eastern and western sound).
usually fish for stripers in the local waters, but this time of year, i crew on a private boat on the weekends, spending my time fishing the canyons out of Noank, CT aboard a 40' Ocean Express. Fished the Tails this past wknd, had 11 YFT, 1 LFT and 8 mahi. an awesome trip to say the least!! My day job prevents me from getting out during the week, but having sites like Sportfishermen.com makes my day move a lot quicker!! As most people on this site, i love seafood and am always finding ways of cooking it up!! try this one - adjust accordingly. 1lb Count Necks 1 stick unsalted butter 1 heavy cup of white wine - pinot grigio healthy bunch of chopped parsley hot pepper flakes 4 or 12 cloves of garlic - your choice! ha! shallot - optinal fresh pepper no salt!! - plenty in clams!! crusty bread - grilled with a little olive oil tin foil tray w/3" sides; tin foil to cover put everything in the tray, cover and put on grille. shake tray every once in a while. once open, transfer to bowl, eat and dip. enjoy! Hey, anyone fishing Stellwagon recently? I'm heading there on Monday - friend taking his new boat and new gear out to fish for tuna. I'm reading/hearing things are slowing down, but still being caught. bars in black. figure we'll head out to the corner and take it from there. maybe live line a bluefish with a kite. |

fshsltwtr-
Do you work in Boston? I'm in Cambridge myself. As far as the NWC, it's a bit old for info, but one of my buddies was down there on saturday and I guess it looked decent, though he didn't do anything. Good luck out there this weekend! |

offshore 24
Hi guys! I am 31 and just moved to MA about 5 years ago. I grew up in Maryland. I fished off the coast of OC for 20 years. We focused on bluefin tuna, yellowfin, mahi, and mako. I have been going through withdraws for the last 5 years. I still manage to get down there aabout 2 times a summer to fish, however I am buying a boat to fish in new england. The problem is I have no idea where to keep the boat. I live in western mass. I dont mind the 2 1/2 hour drive to fish. But what is the best place to go out of to fish? (for tuna) i have read the threads here and i see you guys do catch mahi mahi what kind of run are you talking for that? In maryland we fished anywhere from 22 nm to 70 nm (Jackspot- Baltimore Canyon). Any information would be greatly appreciated. I would love to hook up and fish with some of you I have no problem running the pit.
thanks for your time Eric |

Offshore-
Welcome to SFC and to the New England forum, I'm glad you found us. I guess it's hard to get the saltwater out of your veins once it's there ...everyone always seems to make their way back to the water. I'm sure that others will be able to weigh in with specific places to put your boat in, but I would think that if blue water is what you're after, you would be putting in in eastern Connecticut or Rhode Island. Both of those areas will give you a straight shot south to the canyons (about 100 miles to the edge). If you're looking for bluefin, I think that you can get to those grounds relatively quickly down there, though I'm not positive. There are a bunch of guys from this forum from those areas, so hopefully they'll weigh in. Again, welcome to SFC, and I look forward to your reports and pictures! Shoe |

thanks shoe
I appreciate the info. I look forward to ffishing new england. 100 mile run to the edge is a little far for me. I have a 24 foot grady white and only hold 150 gallons of gas. So it looks like bluefin only to cure the itch. I still have friends and family in Maryland that charter. ( For when the need arrises to catch some Marlin
) Where do you fish? and what do you mainly target? Thanks Eric |

I'm out of NH, so I mostly fish the Gulf of Maine. The main species up here is the dogfish
just kidding. We mostly target gbft up here. The fishing has been slow up here in the last few years, but the folks up here always manage to pull a couple out a season. Besides that its the typical New England stuff- stripers, bluefish, cod, haddoc, and sharks.Even though your boat is only a 24 and the canyons are out of reach, you will have a pick of a number of different fisheries down there- inshore you will be able to run to Montauk for world class stripers and fluke fishing, block island and south will give you some great sharking grounds that should be able to curb your appetite for makos, a bit further and you should be able to get into bluefin, and if I'm not mistaken, occationally some warm water eddies may move in close enough for you to get to them. You are in an unbelieveable spot down there! If you want to get more detailed information, don't hesitate to start your own thread here in the NE forum and I'm sure folks from that area will jump in. I have to warn you though, the only thing more addicting than fishing is SFC ![]() |

I haven't been on this site in weeks and just thought I would respond to the NE section. My name is Capt. Eric Stewart and I am the co-owner of "The Hook-Up!" Bait and Tackle Shop located in Orleans, Cape Cod. Ma. Besides the shop we own and operate three charter boats. "The Hook-Up!" runs out of Rock Harbor and fishes Cape Cod Bay for Bass and Blues, she is a 38' Delta Sportfish. The "Tammy Rose" is a 38' Henriques Flybridge and runs out east of Chatham and Nantucket and specializes in bluefin tuna trolling trips. The "Tuna Fever" is a 26ft Steiger Craft with t/250 Suzukis and runs out of the Chatham Inlet again for bluefin tuna. The tackle shop has everything you need to fish on Cape Cod from Trout to Tuna. We focus on boat fishing and specilaize in tuna gear. I grow up fishing here on the Cape and started working on charterboats at the age of 13. I got my Capt. lic. at 19 and I have been running boats for 24 years. Check out our shop if you are ever in Orleans. I will start posting reports here now that we have a NE home on Sportfishermen.com. Great site. Capt. Eric
