    Need Help finding a pole

Im not much of a fisherman myself but i figured finding this forum and asking would be the best way to find an answer for my question. My father has a boat in Onset and his greatest joy is fishing I think primarily for Bass I just wanna know What the absolute best rod & reel combo is for him. Christmas is coming and money is not really an issue here. help please!

It might seem a little crass...but unless you can come up with some pretty specific information, with the thousands of choices for the hundreds of different methods there are,if you want him to have something he will enjoy a gift certificate to a good tackle shop might make more sense...whats good for one way of fishing wont work at all for another.

would be good for eeling or chunking, or live lining
probably cost 375-400 and i would put a saltiga or a ocea jigger on it. another 379.oo

I used to do this before I got the fever. I suggest an Ugli Stick and a Penn 5500ss. Maybe something like this.

Im sorry if I offended you...from a boat, for the reel,a Zeebass is a fairly decent reel,a good size for bass,if by bass you mean striped bass, would be a ZX20 SD. A good rod would be in the 7 foot range, for around 12 to 14 lb line, Ian Miller makes an OK rod in their Tournament series, the 989101.That would make a pretty good combination for the local waters.I hope you have a Merry Christmas,Im sure your father will be happy with whatever you can afford.

    Big,

I think the trouble we are having relates to the word "best." In the fishing world, the best gear gets very specialized for a specific task or style of fishing.

It is sort of like asking for the "best" car for someone who commutes to work. Some would like a Lexus, some would prefer a Bentley, other a Corvette and still others want a tricked out Ford F250 pick up.

Snoop around and ask his fishing friends how he likes to chase stripers. The other issue with your request is that there are a million ways to striper fish.... Each method to chase them has a different "best" rod.

Then naturally you get into the Ford vs. Chevy debate or opinions on who thinks Lamiglass is better than Calstar which is like Seeker, etc...

Sorry we can't get more specific. The more specific you can be with us, the more specifically we can reply.

    Mike
