MudHole/Tuna Ridge or Butterfish/Jennies
Anyone been having any luck lately at either spot. Had ok action in early August for mid 30" tuna at MH but from reading the postings it doesnt look to productive lately. Will be headed out tomorrow around 6pm for some night sharkin and then troll in the am for whatever's around. Any recommendations??

Fished the gully to tuna ridge back up to the south side of the island yesterday. 5 fish in the mid 30 pound range. 2 in the morning on the troll west side of gulley on GM/Birds 7AM. 1 More there on a jig at 30 feet around 11AM after the fleet went home, some bass to. Dropped the jig right on top of where we had fish in the morning and within 10 minutes were hooked up. TD 510/805 roughly.
Around noon headed for the island to call it a day when 1.3 miles off the south side in 60+ feet of water came across a few schools of the same class fish just cruising. Put out a couple zuchini clones and within minutes two more. Trolled and casted to them for another half hour no takers. Casting just seemed to spook'em. Overall great day and some fun fishing had a first timer on the boat and he couldn't get enough. Good Times. |

Fished the Mud Hole, Fairway, as well as the Gully to Tuna Ridge and slightly beyond. Trolled 4 - 5 hours and only 2 knockdowns and 2 had them on for a brief minute (Mahi) and that was it. The weather was beautiful. I'm going to try South of Montauk this coming week. I'll keep trying. Carl Quote:

Yeah, tried the mudhole and there wasnt much action goin on. Up all night with mostly bluefish and dogfish in the slick. Tried live linin a few blues minus some fins with hopes of a mako hookup but the dogfish picked those down to the bone as well. Only caught two blue sharks but didnt see anything worth keeping. At dawn trolled for around 4 hours with no takers. Had one mahi on a plug but he spit it. Will also be heading further south next weekend. Likely to the Ranger or Jennies.
