2 years ago we had some crazy pogie ball action-
fish had them balled so tight I think they were planning on eating every last one-
that is til some dick weed in an ocean master ran them over
then went the extra mile and backed over them

Plus the after fish party is waay better on a full moon

Fair enough. If I could fish every day, I would in a heartbeat. However, if you need to be selective with vacation days and/or hall passes from the wife, doesn't it make sense to try to maximize your odds however you can?

Lunar effect on tuna fishing (or any fishing) is clearly far from an exact science, and I do think it's interesting to hear guys weigh in on this thread with their personal experiences here in the NE...

Like someone else said if you're not fishing you ain't catching. I won't let the luna cycle stop me from going out if I can get the free time. Deer hunting too!

Internet ED. Nice post and good topic. I personally have had better luck with bass the week before and after a full moon. There have been times when the full moon didn't have as great of a magnetic pull and presenting baits down deep were easy and extremely effective. I've noticed with tuna that they feed during full moons and the morning after bite is quick and can be tough. Natural bait works well. I've caught fish during all moon phases. Brighter nights allow the fish to see the bait better. Especially jumbo stripers hiding down deep, they have an easier time spotting silhouettes of swimming bait.

I second what Larry said about just being able to get out. Weather and free time decides if I can fish and the moon phases are just an added perk. Just another factor that fuels the fire.

Ed, now that you've got some free time we should meet up and take a look at those logs. You definitely have the experience and we can all stand to learn a few things.
