Thank you all for your input!

I just got finished reading the 5 page thread from Greg about a CHB category. I read every post. Some made me nauseous, some laugh, some pensive, but all very informative.

I own and operate a business in IT. I make a good living for my family and those whom work for me. That shall be my focus, not commercial fishing. If I wanted to be a commercial fisherman, whom I kind of idolize to be honest, I should have made very different decisions 30 years ago.

I guess I have come to the conclusion that the sport I am playing is called sport fishing.

It is kind of funny, it wasn't too long ago that I would spend hours crimping down every single one of my flies' barbs down and wouldn't even carry one that wasn't crimped on me. I also only owned fly fishing gear. I looked down on bait fisherman and those with heavy gear. How self-centered of me!

I now haven't cast a fly rod in over a year and just had seven 50W spooled and two 130 spooled last week. The most enjoyed day of fishing I have had this year has been with five friends jigging for Cod on the NWC using 16 oz jigs I made and rigged.

Three years ago I bought a tagging kit from the UNH program and I think this is the year I shall be using it.

with all the heated debate on here, sometimes it makes me reflect upon my true motives. The truth is I only have a handful of days I can be on the water, between my family, business and weather. I think I shall choose to enjoy them sport fishing, not trying to fulfill some sort of odd wanna-be commercial fisherman fantasy.

Thank you all for helping me to come to a smart and right-sized decision for me.

BTW - the best bumper sticker I saw recently was, "Tilapia isn't seafood."

Thumbs up - I share your viewpoint and went through much the same thought process 6 or 8 years back.

Thumbs up as well. It's called the tuna fever. We all have it. It makes you f'ing crazy.

For the last 50 years it's been making people lose wives, buy boats, spend their children's inheritances on fishing rods, shoot at each other and call a bunch of people a lot of ugly names.

Having the ability to make a living from something that is "free" is a gift and should be cherished, nurtured and PROTECTED, as it is a gift of the highest order.

Responsibility comes with using that gift.

Since it is "free" nobody owns the rights to that gift or is entitled to make that gift into a "right".

    Think about it...

Nice post, ATG. I knew some of you nose-upturned longwanding elitist types actually had a true fisherman's heart in you somewhere!

say you have all the permits to sell a Tuna or any other fish i guess, do you need to have a registered business? or does the buyer just sign you over a check?
