Made a day trip to the middle grounds in a customer's 32 Regulator. Left Block Island @4:30, steamed at 30 kts. Pulled up about 6 miles from edge around 7:00. 68 degree water. headed southwest toward edge.....first fish on in 5 minutes. Turned out to be the biggest of the day at.......30 lbs. Had as many as five at a time on. threw most of 'em back. Kept five. Water got to around 72 degrees. Almost all fish caught in 69-70 degree water on mexican flag bigeye clones on bird daisy chains or bigeye clone daisy chains.
Saw porpoises, one turtle, had one mahi on, didn't get it to the boat. wind started to blow northeast at around 11:00.....turned the fishing right off. Back to B.I. by 2:30. EXCELLENT!!!
I have not been posting...been too busy. My boat ISN"T IN THE WATER (!! ) Awlgripped it in my driveway, looks great. Have not been able to get a backhoe or crane big enough to get it on trailer....ouch!!!
Storm- Fished near you guys yesterday as well. Yellow Southport 28. 12 Yellows to 30# and a couple nice mahi around 15#.30 or so skippies, ugh. All fish caught on the break as well in the flats never made it to the deep. Clones and chugger chains worked best for us they didn't have a preference with multiples all morning. Heard of a few bigger fish in the deep and a couple albies taken as well. Trolled from 7- 12:30 on that same break. Overall a nice day.
