Whether you know a little or a lot about tuna fishing, you will learn something of value at Greg's seminar. His first last year, was a stellar first time effort. Greg holds nothing back, doesn't keep any secrets--he tells you everything he knows, and its that way with his sons and everyone else that particpates. Good people and all very approachable.

It'll flatten the learning curve for a lot of people.

Its a good take. Like what else are you gonna do on March 5--snow will be gone, too early to mow the lawn. Go, you will have some fun and learn something.

    Less than a month away

Just a couple of quick updates in regards to the setup, video, and product available at this year's seminar:

Shirts - Bluefin Graphics will be providing everyone with a free shirt at this year's event. Brendan did a great job designing the shirts this year and I'm sure everyone attending will like them.

Tackle and other items - Squid Bars Company will be releasing their NEW custom squid color for 2011. It is a new color that we tested in the fall and it produced great! SBC will also be selling all bars, chains, and hook baits at a 10-15% discount. Spread Em' T-shirts and Hoodies will also be available.

Ken Fraser will be selling and signing copies of his book "Possessed" as well as the new IGFA book "BIG", that Ken is featured in.

Video and Setup - We will be showing some UNBELIEVABLE hand feeding footage from up in Canada in 2010. The Bruce Brothers were kind enough to send it down to us to be edited a little bit. The best footage from the insane feeds the guys were seeing up there and out at G Bank that we have seen yet by far.

During some of the break time, we will also be showcasing the HD footage we took while fishing down in MX as well as the NEW MBG and Old Harbor Outfitters Promo footage.

Video demonstration will be playing a large part in this year's event, both in speaker's presentations and live in the workshop area.

Should be a fun time! And a great way to make the winter feel shorter..hopefully.

I second MACSON's comments here. Last year's seminar was awesome: great agenda, 100% honesty about tactics (that's just the way the Sears/MBG guys are), and a great way to spend a Saturday in early March while most of us are still out of the water. This year's agenda looks even stronger (Jeff Corwin?!?) and I personally have had this date circled in red for months.

    A week away!

    Just an FYI for anyone attending or thinking about attending the Seminar next Saturday;

We have added Canyon Reels as a new sponsor/vendor for the event. They will be bringing their line of products for demonstration and will be sharing some jigging tactics. They will also be donating a jigging setup to the raffle.

There are still tickets left, so call the shop if you are interested.

    MBG Seminar a Splashing Success!

With combined fishing experience of hundreds of years available to participants, seminar tickets were oversold for the second year in a row and we anticipated a large and enthusiastic crew of anglers. Yesterday’s festivities kicked off with a coffee fueled meet and greet hosted by Greg Sears, Steve James, and the rest of the Mass Bay Guides crew. Presentations began shortly after with ongoing hands-on discussions and demonstrations available in the workshop room and subject talks and demonstrations available all day long in the main event room.

Mass Bay Guides professional Captains Greg, Bryan, and Taylor Sears, Captain Don Campbell, and Captains Dave and Ed Newell presented on topics from the hunt for big game fish, striped bass fishing, and fishing tactics and tackle, to understanding and navigating local fishing grounds, basic marine maintenance and preparing and dressing a tuna.

Other featured speakers included Ken Fraser, the IGFA all tackle blue fin tuna world record holder (1496 pounds, caught off of Nova Scotia in 1979), who recounted his world record landing experience, and a presentation by the Bruce Brothers of Prince Edward Island, considered the Historic Sport Tuna Fishing Capital of the World. Jeff Corwin from the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, NBC, and the Food Network wrapped up the day with a talk about New England fisheries and the potential impact of the gulf spill on our blue fin tuna population.

Attendees ranged from new boat owners and new anglers to experienced and seasoned fishermen – the seminar catered to enthusiasts with all levels of knowledge and experience. Our many sponsors included, Old Harbor Outfitters, Belsen’s Bait and Tackle, Bluefin Graphics, Reckless Abandon Lures, C-Creatures Tackle, Squid Bars Co., & A to Z Marine, among others and they were all available to offer expert advice as well as their products and services at a discount to Mass Bay Guides customers and seminar attendees.

The day wrapped up with a raffle which included thousands of dollars in prizes donated from our sponsors, with proceeds benefiting the Stellwagen Bank Charter Boat Association, the American Bluefin Tuna Association, and the Recreational Fishing Alliance. Thank you to everyone for their participation in making this years seminar such a success!
