Captain Don was out on the Labrador today with Kerry as mate. I was attempting to get to a wedding on the cape but with the traffic we never made it. Soup had been trolling for a couple of hours when he marked a nice couple of big red bananas. When he looked back at the Riggs he saw a swirl and told Kerry to tease the fish. When Kerry gave the reel a couple of cranks "slam" they where on 40 minutes later they landed a nice 70" fish. The charter went home happy again today. Good Job "Doglover"
Fished on the Aldente II today with Bryan (massbaytuna3) and Nick Hanney (Turbo) from the Castafari. Headed out around 4:00 and had the riggs in the water by 5:00. It wasn't ten minutes before all four squid bars had car size boils behind them. Short went off (Trick or Treat) and we were on baby!! I fought the fish for about 20 minutes and we landed a nice 65" fish. Put the bars out again ...five minutes....bam left rigger goes off. 20 minutes Nick landed his first bluefin of the year. Started letting the bars back out and I couldn't get the last bar out. Fish came up on the right and Nick teased him. The fish smoked the good and plenty and round 3 here we go. We had 3 fish before 7:00...what a day!!! I will be posting some sweet pics and I have some unreal video coming soon! Good luck tomorrow everyone.

Mass Slay Guides would seem appropriate. WTG
Yesterday's morning bite was definitely the best all year by far! Action on every rig for two hours straight! I wish it could always happen like that...![]()
Damn,you guys are on fire.![]()
We are continuing to work on the ICCAT quota. Today 07/07/2009 Captain Dave ( Fortunamate's Dad) and myself went out fishing for a fatty. after about 2 hours of trolling we latched on to a nice fish using a slugo on a bent butt 80# Penn. This fish fought like a champ for over one hour Dave and I were sure we were on a big fish. When Dave got the fish to the boat for the first time it looked good. When Dave got the fish to the boat the second time it looked good. When Dave got the fish to the boat the third time I stuck it in the head. The fish was only 70+ but fat and did not make the market. We donated the meat to a local charity. This fish makes number 14 killed in the small medium category for the "Fortuna". We also have 2 market fish large medium around 80" and 11 tagged fish released. The 16 reported fish make up 1 metric ton toward the General quota using an average of 150 pounds. This is only the Fortuna and does not count all of the other Mass Bay Guides boats and guides. This is just a reminder of the importance of reporting. Remember we are out every day just doing our job. If most of you could be out there every day you would have the same results. Just get out and go fishing, best of luck. And if you are on the Bank please introduce yourself on chan. 69.![]()

Alot of small fish being taken. At what point do you think they should close the small fish category? Aug 15th? Sept 1? Or do you think they should let it run over as usual this year?
Just my opinion but why have a quota for small fish if they're not going to stick to the quota and close it when reached. These small fish haven't spawned yet and are the lifeblood of our fishery.
hey Greg, remember me from today? i was "following you" from what i heard on the radio. that's usually the route i travel on. but yup that was me, whats wrong with scituate folks sticking together? haha.....still working on getting my first fish...
