Fished the OBMST yesterday, setup 49 miles south of Gay Head, about 10 miles southwest of the dump at a long warm water finger seen on rutgers. Water temp went from 61-68 quickly. Caught 10 makos up to 65". Kept one for the table but couldnt seem to get into a big one to weigh in. Only 4 blue sharks all day. I must have run into a Mako migration or spawning... Do they school? Felt like I was in a large mass of similar fish like tuna fishing. Amazing to see so may Makos around the boat all day.
"kerinellie" poked her nose out on fri and upon hearing the reports from those navigating muskeget we turned around and enjoyed a day on the dock.
fished yesterday south of gay head. started the day off well with the first fish being a thresher only 50 minutes after lines in. fish was approx 200#. followed that up with a 3 makos and 11 blues to round out the day.
all the makos were pups no bigger that 90#. alot of boats reported multiple pup makos. great to see alot of makos.
buddy Calvin (DILLIGAF) put a nice mako on the scale...great showing for a 23' CC.
winning boat won with a chunky 'beagle...359# i think it was.
ya the winning fish was nice but i dont know how you catch a fish with 130 chair rods and not have a chair on board or fighting station. I mean I guess you could just leave them in the rod holder and fight them right?
Wow 10 Makos, thats almost unheard of, you must have been dialed in. Too bad you couldn't find the big one mixed in. In regards to the original question, I don't think Mako's role in packs, so you must have had something special to lure that many in. Whats your secret?
Anyways good job.
