Mako Magnet?

Has anyone used the Mako or Tuna Magnet? Are they effective?

Thanks,

They don't work at all Don't EVER use one. In fact they scare makos and tunas away from the boat. You become a big beacon that's saying in shark-ese "Don't come here, nothing to see here, just guys trying to catch you"

BTW they work for other species too. If you cast net bunker, turn on the mako magnet and watch you fish finder as they crowd around the boat.

Johootie!-
Read your thread a few nites back- been thinkin about it ever since....

What's the best way to wire that magnet to power onboard? Could I bring the plug into a separate isolated battery dedicated to JUST the magnet without running it through my fuse box/switch?

I used to have one and every trip out we either saw or hooked a mako. It also attracted a monster great white, we were at the coimbra wreck and the great white nosed right up to the boat then turned and took off. It returned about 15min later and i thought it was going to eat the boat. At that moment I questioned why i go shark fishing just because of the sheer size of the shark. I think that was 2 summers ago and we were not the only boat to spot that shark I heard other reports.

BATTERY

I BRING A BATTERY ON BOARD TO POWER THE MAGNET I CONNECT THE ALLIGATORS RIGHT TO IT, WE ALSO USE A PLASTIC BATTERY BOX TO COVER IT

LIKE IT WILL KEEP USING IT TILL ITS OWNER WANTS IT BACK

JA-HOOTIE

CHECK THIS SITE FOR ON BOARD CONNECTIONS

I have used one of those portable jumper packs all day to power the magnet. It's a lot loghter than a battery and stores easier too, no worry about spilling acid either.
