Never sharked fished out east, so my experiences are limited to the south. There can be a good mako bite in late June and into early july but that typically involves a run south of Montauk, and maybe even a bit west... Can be a long run, and I have done it, but has been worth it. Last year we made the run for the Snug Harbor tournament and had bluefin busting around us all morning. Drove me insane to be sharking while the entire New Jersey fleet was taking bluefin, but we did pull one of only two makos taken in the tournament.

Come September I would hang by the mud hold, maybe a bit south... The shark fishing south of the hole has been pretty predictable for us in mid-late September. Very few blue sharks, a lot of 150lb makos with a few 300lb+ fish mixed in.

See ya out there shortly Terrence.

Be extra careful around the 100-150 lb makos in warm water south of the islands. In terms of attitude, they take the cake.
