Lottsa Haddock

I had the pleasure of fishing today with two friends, Steve and Mark, who also happen to be brothers.

Mark, the guy on the right, is a fishing guide in Colorado and leaves on Sat. for that gig. He'll be out there until Sept. Steve really wanted to get his brother out for some groundfish before Mark takes off. Mission accomplished.

We left Green Harbor at the gentlemanly hour of 0800 and headed toward the southern end of Stellwagen. Water temps read 53.3 most of the day. Just about everyplace we tried from 150' to 180' held fish. And a few dogs. Lots of short cod, fewer than half a dozen legal cod, but the number of legal haddock (with a few really nice fish in the mix) was impressive. Couple of macks on the teasers too. All taken on jigs.

I was more than happy to avoid crossing the bank and heading east to find fish with fuel prices where they are. Better enjoy this while it lasts, because once the water warms up it's a haul to get on fish like this.

Therapy -- no bait at all. Quite a few fish fell to the teasers too that included a sand eel pattern fly, grub tail, and a red tube.

Quick report for Sunday, left Sandwich 8:45 AM went to SW CORNER NOT ALOT ON THE SOUNDER MOVED AROUND A BIT TIDE WAS GOING FAST, MY DRIFTS WERE TO FAST PUT A CALL INTO MY BUDDY PIRASEA from Green harbor he was up on Middle Bank he said he was picking thru them so we picked up and shot north to about 4 mils north of the BE alot of shorts we could see a crap load of boats on the radar to the north so we shot up there, we ended up on the NW corner did ok i guess but if you break it all down the Cod and Haddock cost us about $45.00 a pound with the fuel we burnt, but they sure taste good, nice day a little snotty in morn but laid right down good thing too it took us 2 hrs to get back to Sandwich Basin at 28knts very few Macs, nothing on bait but those endanged Dog fish every thing else on jigs. Alot of Sand eals but no real life to speak of. We were running electrics and then switched to old fasion fishing and the bite got better, alot of shorts, but had a great time. Keep us posted where the Cod and Haddock are and i'll do the same. Good luck to all.
