Anthony's Ark is a blowboater
Lotsa Cod
My son is visiting from grad school in PA for a few days. He brought a friend who's only fishing accomplishment up to this point has been a 9" rainbow trout. We'll see about that...
We ran to the cod jigging grounds east of Stellwagen and had fish on the first drop. Absolutely non-stop action with about an even ratio of legal to short. Even so, after putting a dozen nice fish in the box they figured that was enough fillets for the ride back to PA.
Less for me to fillet, so I liked that plan!
The rest of the day was spent watching humpbacks, minkes, and a bunch of short-beaked common dolphin that found out boat and stuck around for a while.
Of Interest:
- Surface water temps seemed to have dropped a little; 66 - 68 today
- Tons of weed in the water that would have made trolling next to impossible
- Very few tuna seen despite the flat conditions. A few VERY large fish were seen pushing water in the middle of the bay, and some SMALL fish were airing it out within 3 miles of the shore
- Two miles off the beach we saw a mola!

I dont know what I'm doing wrong. We were east of the bank, in water from 240-270. dog fish fest! Only a few shorts. We also ran into the whales on the ride in, what an incredible display!!! If you have any advice I would greatly appriciate it. It's a lot of fuel to burn with little reward! Thanks

All our fish were taken on jigs and teasers. One butterfly jig was used and produced well too. No bait. Not that jigs are dog proof, but it does help a little.
We found the best fishing east of middle bank.
Biggest cod were in 225 - 240. More shorts in the deeper water.

We are out of plymouth harbor. This is the first year in plymouth, we moved the boat from Fairhaven. We actually tried jigs with teasers, then bait, and both at one point. Just cant seem to figuire out what im doing wrong. we were east of the bank, I would say half way between middle and sec of the bank. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appriciated!!

Cockpit Monkey In Training
That's why they call it fishing not catching.
Sounds like you're right there, sometimes you drop it right on them, sometimes you've got to buzz around a bit, blow up the picture on your chartplotter and look for some signif drops or bumps, you'll get em.
Looking at those FAC pictures kills me (the little hottie did ease the pain), last time out for me the SE winds and seas picked up a lot and that made for long ass wet ride home.
