    Thumbs up Looking for Insight

    Hey guys,

First off thanks for all the help with past questions that I've posted here. I'm relatively new to tuna fishing and really appreciate the help. We've been able to bag a few fish thanks to the words of wisdom gained from some of the more veteran guys on this board and other forums on the web. Much appreciated

I've recently been fortunate enough to be graced with the opportunity to write about fishing/outdoors for a local Cape Cod website. I've had a great time sharing some info that's worked for my crew and I in the past, with local anglers and outdoor enthusiasts-most of which are of the recreational crowd.

What I would like to do is spread some awareness of the plight all of us share against the legislation that may compromise our tuna fishery, and subsequently, other fisheries in the long-term.

I have exposure to maybe a few hundred readers each week, nothing huge, but it's a start I suppose. I wanted to ask for input as to the message some of the more experienced gentlemen on this board would like to see conveyed to members of the recreational sector, as I realize recreational attendance at meetings etc. has been lacking.

At the moment, the information I am specifically interested in is with regards to upcoming meetings that the recreational crowd could attend. Along with other ways that the recreational crowd can get involved.

I look forward to your responses, and appreciate your insight. We may not have funding comparable to the Environmental Defense Fund, however we can still have a positive impact in decision making if we make a strong, definite effort to do so.

Thanks for the help and tight lines!

    Ryan

I am a recreational angler with relatively little bft experience and am learning about how the rules to sustain the fishery and regulate our access to it are promulgated, if that is possible given what to me is a Byzantine process. You might want to promote attendance at the April 26 NOAA meeting in Fairhaven, MA or the Stellwagen tuna group's meeting on April 12 in Marshfield. You also might want to explain exactly how one can record his or her opinion on the proposed quota rules to NOAA before the end of April that has been detailed on this forum and others. You also might want to suggest that those with questions might want to view this forum or stop by and talk with Capt. Eric in Orleans, who has a broad perspective on factors that impact the fishery. Perhaps the most important thing is to emphasize that we have the right, if not the duty to register our view to the government and our elected representatives on public policy.
