I heard you hailing on the vhf LB. But Marc and I were too busy getting deployed. Too funny, when I was able to get to helm..."Chum, look to your north" A quick turn, cut in line and fish on within a few minutes Thanks for the phone call!

Fish hit a pink bar. I tried like hell to get out of there. Before we could, we had double trouble with a 1 man crew. 2nd fish slammed a skirted hoo and had a 50VSW screaming like I never heard. The 50 was loaded with 100 over 130# and presets at max

Unfortunately, the first fish managed to get unbuttoned from the bar while Marc and I were dealing with everything else. The best fisherman on the boat was on it - a rod holder with the boat in gear. No idea what happened. Slack in the line maybe?

Made a little progress with the other fish when she took off again. Gee-zuz, what a sound. This time it was a whicked run off...then nothing. Reeled the line in and found she snapped off at the hook. And I do mean AT the hook. I've caught a couple fish this year and this was no 60-something-ish fish.

Here's what's left of the hook.

Looks like the hook cracked at the barb and had some corrosion inside.

I'm chocking this one up to just plain sloppy laziness on my part. I remember thinking the nite before how nice it was not to have to rig everything and "just go with what I gots" cause it's the last trip of the year. I can live with that. Besides, I had a freakin blast fishing this year.

I would have been laughing my ass off but I was too busy trying to find a nice clean path between you, Althea K, Castafari and the birdpile that would leave everyone tight and me from running directly into the pile. I was up top; watched you completely oblivious to 1000 birds a quarter mile to your north. Then a turn to port, 100 yards to line the baits up and chaos.

Its so nice to fish w./ boats that have a clue; that frenzy was going on unmolested for good 15 minutes; 4 boats are spinning in circles 400 yards apart and everyone has plenty of room to do as needed. Far cry from August crowds and googans.

Good point on the rigs and hooks - my pink bar is a golden oldie and has probably had a dozen fish this year. Do I ever look at the hook; nah.....check the mainline; check the stinger line and we're good to go....

We did award you the hearty fisherman medal for being out there yesterday - must have been a bit chilly on the ride out w/ that SE sea running.

Not as bad as those days your out there in the middle of Aug wearing a tank top and bathing suit and it gets so chilly your nipples hurt At least you KNOW it's going to be cold and dress for it. I could barely move. I felt like the little brother in "A Christmas Story". You know, the one with the "you'll shoot your eye out" movie.
