    Lock and Load Cod Action

There was some great lock and load cod action east of the bank today in 250-270 feet of water. Tons of cod to 20 lbs, a few haddock, and a cusk. My son was reeling up a short cod and ten feet under the boat, I saw a huge flash of white. It disappeared and then a few seconds later, a 200-300lb dusky shark decided to come take a peek at the fish as we had it dangling on the surface next to the boat. The dusky took some good looks at it. It was pretty cool as I have never gone sharking before. The next cod we brought up had its tail bitten off...

We also saw a bunch of tuna, but mainly one or two at a time and no definite blitzes. Also, had one take a swipe at a Ron-Z but missed.

It was awesome, although my 12 year old stopped fishing for the next 30 minutes after seeing the shark. After the shark came by, I put out the cod that got its tail bitten off out on a balloon and 50W to see if we could get some tuna practice.

Nice job on the cod, but everyone knows you can't catch a tuna with a cod.

    What were you thinking?

We weren't trying to catch a tuna. We were trying to catch the dusky...
