    live lining setup help

    Hello all.

This past weekend, I spent two full days on Stellwagon and learned a world.

I think if I could do it over again, I would have used live pogeys on balloons - er - I think.

that being said, how the hell do I fish those? Normally I just live line with mono and a treble hook for stripers, but I am clear tuna is a bit different.

Any helpful suggestions? Rigging, boat positioning, leaders etc?

    Any help appreciated.

    - ATG

Google the following and you can start to figure out what your doing:
    Bridle live bait
    Kite fishing

You can use mono when kite fishing
    Use floro with balloons
bridle in the back for kites
the eyes are ok for the balloons.

Good luck and watch out the fever is life changing!!

I liveline using baloons often but I am looking to add a kite to my arsenal.

    I keep it simple
80 lb. Flouro leader with a 9/0 owner hook, I vary the length but it usually around 6 to 8 feet long. I like to use crimps as opposed to tying.
Pair of Penn-50's spooled with 130 lb. JB Braided line.
Use a light rubber band and attach the baloon to the swivel with the rubber band, that way when the fish hits your not messing with a baloon it just releases.
I find that hooking the pogie just in front of the dorsal works best.
I don't anchor up just drift.
Sometimes I will throw the boat in gear when first setting the pogies to get them out 50 yards or so from the boat quickly.
Set the reel at full strike!!!! I learned this the hard way after losing 3 or 4 and could not understand why, it is not the same as a striper.
Sit back crack a beer and jut keep the little suckers from crossing each other.
It is very exciting watching a 65" fish pound the bait right on the surface, we had 3 takes just last week all on the surface. You can also liveline without a baloon or add a couple ounces if the marks are deep, attach sinker with a rubber band the same way again so that it releases and does not add any stress to the line during the fight.
