    Little boat big ocean

Just curious if anyone went out that way this weekend and had any success. We made the journey out to just short of FishTails, we put in about 5 miles from little fishtails and trolled down but due to our lack of fuel capacity and our first trip out to the edge, we decided to pull the plug early and head home. We really didnt get to the blue water until we were at just about the 500 line. Ended up with 1 knock down and nothing to show for a 200 mile journey. Had some life at little fishtails, with propise and skippys but nothing. On the way in we stopped at the horn where we had porpise and were marking good bait. The water looked pretty good there im sure there are fish there. Also made a stop at the gully and trolled for a few miles, but it was so weedy and the water looked nasty so we headed in. In all just shy of 200 miles traveled, 79 gallons of fuel burned and the knowledge to know that we have the fuel capacity to make it to the edge in a 23 foot boat in the right conditions.... next time

We were out at the Tails on Saturday and the YFT were all mixed in with the Skippies you saw on the surface. Saw them too and heard guy's on the radio say they got covered up while trolling threw the middle of the Skippies so we did the same and had one knockdown and long line release before heading back to the barn.

I'm guessing you went Saturday? We fished the Tails Sat/Sun and despite a lot of life it was slow on the troll. As Mike said though if you found the fish on bait they'd bite but it was hard to do that consistently. We got 3 at night on the chunk and 2 more Sunday morning about 6 miles south of the Little Fishtails when we were heading in and came across some skippies with yellows mixed in.

I think I talked with you on the radio over by the Gully last month. Be careful in a 23 footer out there. We got beat up on the ride home yesterday in my 265 Express. I think I saw 2 boats smaller than mine all weekend in the Tails.
